Austin (Chip) Broadhurst, Jr.

Mr. Broadhurst's medical industry career spans 35 years and includes service in both the public and private sectors. The 14-year operating phase of his career began in the public sector with the former US Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, where he served in staff roles culminating in service on the Secretary's immediate staff. In the private sector, he held senior roles at the former Baxter Laboratories, both on corporate staff and as head of product management for its then medical products division. He then moved to alternate site services leading two divisions of the former National Medical Care: home care and high-risk obesity treatment. He also served as a corporate vice president for planning, business development, and investor relations. Then followed four years of entrepreneurship in service businesses in top management roles. He headed business development and was CFO of Voluntary Health Enterprises, which created multiple alternate site services and managed care businesses in collaboration with the Voluntary Hospitals of America. He was then President and CEO of OcuSystems, which partnered with ophthalmologists and optometrists to relocate surgery from inpatient hospitals to dedicated outpatient facilities while marketing vision care to employers and managed care.

During the following 14 years, Mr. Broadhurst served as an executive recruiter performing assignments across the medical field. At Russell Reynolds Associates, where he served 10 years, he founded and led its health care sector to global presence and prominence. At Russell Reynolds, he led assignments across the medical and life sciences spectrum, including services, products, payments, and support. During the following four years, he served with the first two executive search firms to complete initial public offerings, leading the global medical and life sciences practice of one.

Since 1999 he has added direct involvement with venture capital, private equity, and independent firms in both advisory and board capacities. He has served on 10 medical company boards: five services, five products, and on four nonprofit boards: two hospitals, one emergency medical service and one community college.

Chip and his wife, Janine, have two adult children. He received his MBA from Harvard University and his BA from Williams College.
